Missing Lily Kai

I have no reason to get out bed if I don't have Lily Kai..........

Actually its not what you think, and I am not at home sobbing into my pillow. But this morning something happened that I can't remember happening in a very long time.

I slept in and was 10 minutes late to work ;) I woke up and it was 8.30. I thought maybe it was one of those spring forward, fall back - days and the time must have changed. I have been up and about at 6.30am for 4 years now, and normally even when Lily is away my internal clock wakes me up - like a cruel joke.

Lily wakes up at the exact same time every morning with us, 6.30, regardless of how much sleep she got. She then announces very loudly that it is morning and it is time to get up. Any discussion that may follow is ignored and despite my protests, "it is morning - it is no longer dark!" is all I hear back.

But I had ten and a half hours sleep last night, got to sleep in and it feels GREAT! It may never happen again, but I will remember this morning forever!!

Formula One

For my friends that only talk children we are not talking about baby milk.....only the best sport on the face of the earth! My mum has been visiting from England and we just watched the European Grandprix and my love of racing has definitely been rekindled.

Especially as there is a new hotshot! Check out http://www.formula1.com/teams_and_drivers/drivers/828/
Lewis Hamilton is a new phenomenon, English guy with a Jamaican Dad!! This is his first year in F1 and he is leading the championship board!!

Apparently when he was 11 he told the Mclaren boss that one day he would be racing for him and here he is! His poor dad worked 2 jobs and re mortgaged his house twice to pay for him to make it through the junior circuits.....now I hope he has brought his dad the biggest house on the block!

Of course all the drivers now hate him......which just makes everyone cheer for him more. Anyone up for a trip to Silverstone in 2008?????

Store Brought V's Home Made

Ok, so I am in a dilemma. For all of those that know, lily is turning 4 at the start of August and is having a pirate theme birthday party.

I had found the cake I thought we were going to order from Publix, a pirate ship! Its easy, you pay your money and pick it up at the date and time specified. Every working mums dream.

But then in talking with a new friend Abby, from NZ, who's little boy Louis is just turning 2, we got to talking about how in our home countries you actually make your children's cakes and how special that was! Today she came into work with her cake cookbooks and I picked out what looked like a relatively easy to make ship.

But do I have time for this???! What if it doesn't look as good once I have decorated it. What is more important, how good it looks and tastes.....or that it was made with love??

I don't want to become a quick fix mum, I would love to be barefoot in the kitchen with an apron on baking all day with flour in my hair..... are these days gone?? I googled home made cakes online and there are tons of pictures and recipes, but my guess is these Mums don't have full time jobs :)

Family Night!

The Quarterdeck on Cordova isn't what it used to be. Gone are the bucket of beer nights where you could get 5 bottles of beer for five dollars on a Thursday night. The most famous of all yachtie hangouts has new ownership and they are trying to get away from the drunken out of control crew that would hang out here being loud and obnoxious.

They came up with the idea of family night on Wednesdays with free face painting and the most amazing balloon guy ever. That should get away from the old crowd, they thought!

No! After being there for three Wednesdays now I realised its the same old crowd, we just all grew up and now have kids. Family night is no quieter than bucket night used to be, there are a lot more people running around, as much gets spilt and broken, and The Quarterdeck is still a favourite hangout for all of us old yachties... but now our kids love it too.

New Addition To The Family

......No its not what you all thought. We have a new puppy, or rather I should say Kelly has a new puppy. Recently adopted from the Humane Society of Broward County, http://www.humanebroward.com/ a Rottweiler mix that we have named Guinness. I will add photos tonight so you can all see just how gorgeous he is.

I thought we were crazy too, as we found him 2 days after the big move. But for all those like myself who thought we already had enough on our hands, let me tell you this. Two dogs are better than one. Of course the dogs in question probably play a huge part of that, but Guinness just happens to be the best calm natured even tempered puppy I have ever met.

He was just 8 weeks old when we got him and we have given him a week to show us his true colors....but he is still the same. Very different to our other dog Marley, who is 1 yr old this week and still a complete nut.

When Marley was a puppy Lily would put her rain boots on as soon as she walked through the door until she went to bed to stop him from biting her toes. None of that with Guinness he is just a big hunk of love that wants to be cuddled and petted.

Marley has taken so well to having another dog around, he knows he is top dog and has already taught the pup to use the doggy door in the patio. He kept pushing it with his nose to open, to show Guinness how it worked, then would walk through again and again and sit looking at Guinness until he did the same! Very cute to watch.

They are now the best of friends and spend all their time together. They even share chews as you will see when I post the pictures. They rough and tumble and are just so funny to watch together. Of course Kelly will still continue to take Marley to work on the Tugs and Guinness will become a house dog. Kel wanted to get a big dog to feel like Lily and I were more secure if he was away. Plus he never really got over having to put his dog, Snoopy, down last year - who was also the biggest most gentle Rottie you could ever wish to meet.

Lily is happy too as because we have given the new puppy Marley's cage to sleep in, Marley is now allowed to sleep at the end of her bed. Of course he thinks this is the best thing about having a new addition.

Oh, and the dogs aren't the only ones using the doggie door. Its Lily's favourite way to get to the back yard. But who can blame her I just wish I fit through it too :)

A Brand New World

Ok so after seeing various friends and family's with their own blogspots, I have decided to jump onboard! It seems like such a great way to share the stories about the cute things that Lily says or does, that normally get swallowed up by the goings on of...life!

So here it is, lets see if I can even keep it all updated enough to keep people interested :)

I shall try and add a new posting weekly, and please feel free to bug me if you haven't seen anything new for while.

For all those that don't already know, we have moved! Kelly brought the most amazing house in Riverland, Ft. Lauderdale and we moved on the 4th of July. We have plenty of room for all of Lily's things, plus a pool that she won't get out of. We have a guest room and anyone wanting a cheaper vacation - head on down!
